As she folds
Choreographer and performer: Rachel Lee Heinkel
As She Folds is a contemporary dance theater work. She folds like origami, shaped and reshaped. After continuous folding and shaping into societal expectations, at some point, the paper begins to become thin along the fold lines, fragile and begins to tear. These tears allow experience of pleasure, pain, and confusion. A journey of the inevitable.

Unity
A GLIMPSE INTO A PATH OF HEALING AND SELF-DISCOVERY THROUGH THE DEPTHS OF THE SOUL. EMBRACING THE MOVEMENT OF LIFE.
WE SPEND OUR LIVES RUNNING FROM OUR SHADOWS TOWARD THE UNDERSTANDING OF LIGHT. CHARGING FORWARD BLINDLY. HOWEVER, THE TRUE EXPERIENCE OF LIGHT AT ITS MOST RADIANT IS BIRTHED FROM THE EXPLORATION OF OUR DEEPEST SHADOWS. FIND BEAUTY IN THE SHADOW, FIND BEAUTY IN THE DEEPEST DEPTHS. NOW IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES OF IMMENSE BEAUTY IN THE LIGHT.
EMBRACING THE DIVINE FEMININE. EMBRACING THE DIVINE MASCULINE. TOGETHER IN BALANCE, IN HARMONY, EXPERIENCING LIFE THROUGH THE LIBERATION OF OUR SOULS. ACCEPTING, LOVING, AND WELCOMING EVERY OUNCE OF OUR SOUL. ONLY THROUGH THIS LOVE CAN WE TRULY EMBRACE OURSELVES AS THE DIVINE SOULS WE ARE.

Now That we’re spinning
This work explores the complexities and beauty of intimacy in different spaces and relationships from the perspective of both a heterosexual and queer female-identifying artist experience. The process of creation in this work derives from the idea that we are not limited to only movement as a means for expelling research, memories, and questions.
Created in collaboration with Madeline O’Donnell. Created and peformed in 2022.
